Lighting and Compositing is the department that creates the mood and theme for a short using light, shadow, and color. For Strings, we took the color keys created in Look Development and brought it to life through the months of September to December. In the beginning stages of lighting, the department tests assets with the proper lighting scenarios and also creates set ‘light rigs’ which help maintain continuity across all shots. Lighters then get their shots from animation and add detailed character lighting to their shots. Strings’ Lighting department consists of 8 lighting and compositing artists, who all worked together to finish the short.
